Elmer W. Knapper, 75, of Eldridge, Iowa, passed away on Friday, December 28, 2018 at the Bettendorf Healthcare Center.
Private committal services will be held at a later date at Davenport Memorial Park. Chambers Funeral Home of Eldridge is assisting the family with arrangements.
Elmer was born January 10, 1943 in Davenport, Iowa, the son of Elmer & Barbara (O’Brien) Knapper. He was united in marriage to Camille “Kim” Beckenbaugh in July of 1965 in Low Moor, Iowa.
Elmer had founded Knapper Excavating and Tiling out of Eldridge. His company’s primary objective was conservation contracting. In previous years, he had been an equipment operator for various construction companies.
Among his interests were hunting, fishing and snowmobiling. Elmer also tinkered with antique tractors and ‘hit or miss’ small engines.
Those left to honor his memory include his son, Fritz Knapper of Florida; his granddaughter, Ireland Knapper of Iowa; his sisters, Catherine (John Gubbings) Knapper, Linda (Mike) Hancock, Teresa (Keith) Harris, Karolyn (Greg) Good and Diane (John) Brawley; his brother, Thomas (Jackie Hamilton Knapper) Knapper; his sister-in-law, Donna Knapper; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Edward W. Knapper and Gary D. Knapper; and his parents.
