Elmer A. Reed

Elmer A. Reed, 86, a resident of Bettendorf, Iowa died on Sunday, May 23, 2010 at his home.
A service to celebrate his life will be held at 6:30 P.M. Thursday, May 27. 2010 at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Chapel in Bettendorf. Interment will be private. Memorials may be made to the family.
He was born in Tower Hill, Illinois on October 22, 1923, the son of Oscar & Eulalia (McFadden) Reed. On July 12, 1958, he was united in marriage to Mary M. Hicks in Davenport, Iowa. She preceded him in death on December 8, 1981.
Elmer worked in the shearer room at the Alcoa Company, Davenport Works, retiring some years ago after 33 years of service.
He was a good neighbor and always willing to lend a hand to neighbors & friends, doing yard work, mowing lawns, raking leaves and shoveling snow.
Those left to honor his memory include his daughters, Sharon Reed of Davenport and Nancy (Gary) Dickinson of Bettendorf; and his grandchildren, Jeffrey & Samantha.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Lucille, Mary & Iva Jean; and his brother, Bernard.
