Elmer E. Warhurst, 82, of Eldridge, died Wednesday, August 16, 2006 at Trinity at Terrace Park, Bettendorf.
Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M., Monday, August 21, 2006 at St. James Lutheran Church, Bettendorf. Visitation will be from 2:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M. Sunday at Chambers Funeral Home, Eldridge. Burial with military honors conducted by the American Legion Post #639 of Eldridge will be in Oakdale Memorials Gardens, Davenport. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
Elmer was born March 24, 1924 in Arkansas City, Kansas, the son of Cary & Alma (Bangerter) Warhurst. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged in 1946. He was united in marriage to Barbara A. Francis on October 20, 1957 in Owatonna, Minnesota.
Elmer had farmed in Minnesota for a number of years and was later employed by John Deere and Company in Moline. He retired from M & S Foods of Davenport in 1989.
He was active in the Bettendorf Masonic Lodge # 664. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, working in his yard, and he was a fan of the Chicago Cubs, the Atlanta Braves, and the Chicago Bears.
Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Barbara; his daughters, Elizabeth Scott, of Waukee, Iowa and Tammy Warhurst, of Davenport; his sons, Mike Warhurst and his fiancé, Dina Erxleben, both of Davenport, and Mark Warhurst, and his wife, Kim, of Davenport; 15 grandchildren; his sister, Alma Liggett, of Silvis, Illinois; his brother, Harry Warhurst, and his wife, Helen, of Moline, Illinois; and several nieces and nephews.
Elmer was preceded in death by his parents; and his brother, Wallace.
