Elmer L. Elwess, 75, a resident of Davenport, died Sunday, May 22, 2005 at his residence.
Funeral Services will be 10:00 A.M., Thursday, May 26, 2005 at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home, Bettendorf. Visitation will be from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M., Wednesday evening at the funeral home. Burial will be Davenport Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to Riverview Freewill Baptist Church, Bettendorf.
Elmer was born May 22, 1930 in Carthage, Illinois, the son of Elmer J. & Mabel (Meyer) Elwess. He was united in marriage to Francis L. Carpenter on September 18, 1956 in Rock Island, Illinois. She preceded him in death on September 19, 2002. Elmer served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict and was honorably discharged in 1954.
Elmer was a devout member of Riverview Freewill Baptist Church. His faith and his family were among the most important aspects of his life. He also enjoyed traveling and camping with his wife, Francis.
Those left to honor his memory include his sons and daughters-in-law, John E. & Holly Elwess, Pleasant Lake, Indiana, and William M. “Mike” & Tammy Elwess, Davenport. His grandchildren, Monica Sherman, Tiffany Sherman, Angelina Elwess-Just, Nicole Martin, Tawny Elwess, Tyra Elwess, Bruce Kerr, and Tyson Kerr; and his great-grandchildren, Zechariah Westphalen, Anabel Just, and Taydem Martin.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Ed; and his sister, Darlene.
