Elnora F. Martin, 90, formerly of LeClaire, passed away on Sunday, January 22, 2017 at Rosewood Care Center in Moline.
Funeral Services & Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, January 26, 2017 at Our Lady of the River Catholic Church in LeClaire. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf. Burial will be in Rock Island National Cemetery in Rock Island. Memorials may be made to Heartland Hospice or Our Lady of the River Catholic Church.
Elnora was born December 21, 1926 in Davenport, the daughter of Donald & Esther (Berger) Squire. She was united in marriage to Donald H. Martin on August 10, 1946 in California. He preceded her in death on November 19, 1982.
Elnora provided day care for many years, and will be remembered as “Grandma Martin” to everyone she cared for. She and Don loved to travel and she was an avid baseball fan, of both the St. Louis Cardinals and the Chicago Cubs. She also enjoyed watching her grandson, Brian play with his band.
Those left to honor her memory include her daughters, Cathy Brown (Jim Golz) of Coal Valley and Penny Thompson of Bettendorf; 8 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; her sisters, Wanda Miller of East Moline and Donna McCulloch of LeClaire; and her brother, Dennis (Bonita) Squire of Geneseo.
In addition to her husband, Don; Elnora was preceded in death by her daughter, Tina Parsons; her son, Donald Martin; her brother, Lyle Squire; and her son-in-law, Michael Thompson.
Elnora’s family would like to express special thanks to the staff of Rosewood Care Center, especially Angie Minney and to Heartland Hospice for their exceptional care and comfort they provided for Elnora and her family.
