Eloise L. Bribriesco, 84, a resident of Bettendorf, Iowa, more recently of Blue Grass, Iowa died on Tuesday, October 3, 2006 at Genesis Medical Center, West Campus in Davenport, Iowa following a brief illness.
Her funeral service will be held at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, October 7, 2006 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Bettendorf where she was a member. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Davenport. Visitation will be from 3:00 P.M to 8:00 P.M. Friday at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home, Bettendorf. A family rosary will be recited at 2:30 P.M Friday and a prayer service will be conducted at 7:30 P.M. Friday at the funeral home. Contributions in her memory may be made to the Handicapped Development Center of Davenport.
She was born in Davenport on January 25, 1922, the daughter of George & Margaret (Foreman) Garcia. Eloise married Benny Reyes who preceded her in death in 1941. She later married John Joseph Bribriesco Jr. on December 24, 1944. He preceded her in death on January 6, 1967.
Eloise was employed by the Bettendorf School District, beginning in 1968 at Bettendorf Middle School, later at the District Administration Office and finally at Bettendorf High School for 15 years where she was secretary to the Principal and Associate Principal. Following her retirement, she continued to stay active initially as a volunteer for the Spring Village Meal-Site, later as an employee of the Lend-A-Hand Meal-Site and finally as coordinator of the entire CASI Meal-Site Program until age 70.
A tireless volunteer for many community & civic organizations, Eloise was always willing to say yes when & where help was needed. She was a loyal & active member of the LULAC Club, served as secretary of the Assumption School Board, was a member of OWL (Older Women's League) and a life-long advocate & supporter of the Democratic Party.
Eloise loved her monthly lunch dates with her brothers and sisters as well as her regular lunch get-togethers with her fellow retirees from the Bettendorf School System and in recent years, enjoyed participating in the cardiac rehabilitation program at the Bettendorf Y.
She was an avid sports fan and rarely missed an Iowa Hawkeye football or basketball game on TV. The Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears were also favorites and in earlier years, she was a faithful supporter & volunteer for the Bettendorf Little League Baseball Program.
Eloise's Mexican heritage was a proud part of her life and she was very supportive of the Latino Community in the Quad-Cities.
Her children, grandchildren & great-grandchildren were the center of her life and Eloise would never let a holiday or birthday pass without remembering each and every one of her beloved family.
Those left to honor her memory include her daughters, Benita Reyes of Ankeny, Iowa, Susan (Jerry) Clemens of Bettendorf, Mary (Jim) Connelly of Lee's Summit, Missouri, Kathy (Joe) Laird of Bettendorf and Carrie (Mike) Coyle of Blue Grass, Iowa; her sons, Tom Bribriesco of Blue Grass, John (Angie) Bribriesco of Cape Coral, Florida and Ron (Katie) Bribriesco of Champaign, Illinois; her grandchildren, Jennifer Clemens, Robin Clemens, Amy Clemens, Sarah Varcho, Stanley Clemens, Kimberly Scheuerman, Kelly Wright, Lisa Cahill, Elizabeth Bennett, Abbie Connelly, Katie Wallace, James Laird, Sunshine Hafner, Dawn Norris, Michael Coyle Jr., Kammie Armstrong, Kris Bribriesco, Natasha Elick, Chelsea Vargas, Nicole Bribriesco, Angela Edwards, Chelsea Vargas, Amanda King, Grant Husen & Miles Bribriesco; twenty-six great-grandchildren; her sisters, Margaret (Mike) Cervantes of Davenport and Joan (Salvador "Chavo") Lopez of Davenport; her brother, Lloyd (Lus) Garcia of Davenport; her special family member, Dawn Miller of Davenport; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and wonderful friends.
She was also preceded in death by her sisters, Wanda Niemeyer, Millie Estes, Lucille Rodriguez, Bette Padilla and Jean Martinez; her brothers, Carl Garcia, Albert Garcia and George Garcia Jr. and her son-in-law, Charley Long.
