Elsie A. Griffith, 84, of Bettendorf passed away on Friday, October 11, 2019 at the Iowa Masonic Home.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral in Bettendorf. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until service time. Inurnment will be at a later date at Davenport Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to Trinity – Unity Point Hospice.
Elsie was born August 14, 1935 in Davenport, the daughter of Frederick and Hertha (Stoltenberg) Peiserich. She graduated with the first class of Bettendorf High School. On July 11, 1953 she married Ralph Thomas “Tom” Griffith in Bettendorf. Elsie worked at the Iowa Masonic Home as a nurse’s aid and later in the activities department until her retirement in 2006. She loved her job and was awarded a gold star for her perfect attendance. After retirement she continued to volunteer at the Masonic Home. She was an active member of Silver Sneakers at the Bettendorf YMCA. Elsie also participated in the Pearl Necklace Club, an impromptu group of her former classmates that would get together at local restaurants. In her sparetime, she enjoyed reading and doing puzzles. She was an avid fan of NASCAR and the Hawkeyes. She also took pride in her flower gardens. Elsie was very active and enjoyed attending the concerts in the park, local art fairs, and Bix festivals. Above all, she was a great mom and grandma.
Those left to honor her memory are her sons, Mark Griffith and Matt (Mashanna) Griffith, all of Bettendorf; 2 grandchildren, Cayden and Brystol; and brothers, Richard (Judy) Peiserich of Indiana, Fred Peiserich of Alaska.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Tom; and son, William “Bill” Griffith.
