Elvina Lee Richardson-Thorndyke, 80, of Davenport, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, March 6, 2018 at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House in Bettendorf, Iowa.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, March 12, 2018 at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf. Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House.
Lee was born May 9, 1937 in Ava, Missouri, a daughter of Charles & Nancy (Hall) Schuler. She graduated from Cottey College at the age of 18, earning a teaching degree. She was united in marriage to Samuel Harold Richardson on October 27, 1956 in Ava. He preceded her in death on Tuesday, March 6, 1990. She was later united in marriage to Kenneth P. Thorndyke on July 25, 2009 in Maysville, Iowa.
Lee worked for several years as the first woman with Central Engineering and later with Peterson Parking Lot Striping. She was Past-President of the Davenport Valley Archers and Treasurer of the Iowa State Archers Association. A charter member of Hillcrest Baptist Church in Davenport, she enjoyed traveling for several years. She also enjoyed the slot machines and card games, and watching Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune.
Those left to honor her memory include her husband, Ken; her daughter and son-in-law, Regina & Terry Dipple of Blue Grass, Iowa; her sons and daughters-in-law, Bill & Kathy Richardson of Bettendorf and Roger & Debi Richardson of Blue Grass; her step children, Julie (Mike) Franklin of Marion, Iowa, Paul (Ann)Thorndyke of Blue Grass and Daniel (Amber)Thorndyke of Donahue, Iowa; 7 grandchildren; 5 step-grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; 10 step-great grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; her sister, Evelyn Pruitt of Topeka, Kansas, formerly of Ava; her brother, Lawrence (Maria) Schuler of Donna, Texas; her sisters-in-law, Crystal (Harvey Sulton of Davenport, Myra Halsey of Bettendorf and Jessie (Larry) Morris of Bettendorf; several nieces & nephews; and a special family friend, Wendy Jo Stoeker.
In addition to her husband, Lee was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Edna Mae Davis; and her brothers, Henry Schuler and Louis Schuler.
