Emrel E. “Abe” Schieberl, 88, a resident of Bettendorf, Iowa, passed away on Father’s Day, Sunday, June 19, 2011 at Trinity Bettendorf after a brief illness.
Funeral services will be held at 11:30 A.M., Friday, June 24, 2011 at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf. Visitation will be held from 9:30 A.M. until the time of the services on Friday at the funeral home. Burial with military honors conducted by the American Legion Post #26 of Davenport, Iowa will be held at Davenport Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to the Humane Society of Scott County or to the Bettendorf Public Library.
Emrel was born September 19, 1922 in Rock Island, Illinois, the son of Archie & Nellie (Sutherland) Schieberl.
He graduated from Davenport High School and from the Radio Corporation of America Institute in Chicago and New York. He served in the United States Army during World War II in Germany where he met Martha A. Medicus. They were united in marriage on her birthday, April 3, 1948 in Davenport. Emrel retired in 1984 from American Air Filter after thirty years of employment.
He enjoyed reading, playing cards and loved his Iowa Hawkeyes.
Those left to honor his memory include his beloved wife of sixty-three years, Martha; his daughters, Lynda Arndt of DeWitt, Iowa; Rhonda (Guy) Carnahan of Coal Valley, Illinois, Deborah (Frank) Arguello of Bettendorf; his son, Jeff (Sharon) Schieberl of Bettendorf; twelve grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; and his sisters, Dorothy Eaton of Peoria, Illinois and Hazel Whitaker of Paducah, Kentucky.
Emrel was preceded in death by his beloved granddaughter, Shannon Arguello; his son-in-law, John Arndt; his parents; his sisters, Lois Schilling and June Roadefeld; and his beloved dogs, Max & Wally.
He was the best husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather we could ever ask for and he will be greatly missed.
