Ernesto Victor Sierra, 92, of Bettendorf, passed away Saturday, March 8, 2014, at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House in Bettendorf.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 11:30 AM, Tuesday, March 11, 2014, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Bettendorf. Family will greet friends one hour prior to service at the church. Memorials may be made to the family.
Ernesto was born December 23, 1921, in Montemorelos, Mexico, the son of Ernesto and Rosario (Cano) Sierra. On April 19, 1947, he united in marriage to the love of his life, Josefina Catalina Martinez, in Montemorelos, Mexico. She preceded him in death on January 10, 2001. Ernesto worked at J.I. Case as a machinist until retirement.
Ernesto will be remembered as being a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He would do anything to keep his wife and family happy and cared for. Ernesto liked to stay busy with yard work, painting, gardening, and traveling. After Ernesto’s retirement, he and his late wife, Josephina, enjoyed life to the fullest traveling and spending quality time together.
Those left to honor his memory include his daughters, Sandra Sierra Matheny, and her husband, Richard, Altoona, IA, and Linda Sierra Casas, Bettendorf, IA; his son, Victor R. Sierra, and his wife, Fran, Sherwood, AR; his grandchildren, Monica, Christopher, Veronica, Rudy II, Jessica, Richard II, and Anthony; his twelve great-grandchildren; his sister, Gloria Alanis; and his brothers, Ildefonso and Ricardo Sierra.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Josephina; his parents; two brothers; and three sisters.
