Esther A. Makepeace-Goodnight, 96, of Bettendorf, died Saturday, November 6, 2010 at Genesis Medical Center, West Campus in Davenport.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Thursday, November 11, 2010 at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf.
Visitation will be from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. on Wednesday at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the V.F.W. Post 9128 in Bettendorf.
Esther was born August 25, 1914 in Fairfield, Iowa, the daughter of Arthur Truman and Daisy Mae (Oliver) Smith. She was united in marriage to Fred W. “Pete” Makepeace on August 24, 1933 in Centerville, Iowa. He preceded her in death on February 8, 1975. She was then united in marriage to Leonard Goodnight on March 17, 1984. He preceded her in death on May 29, 1991.
Esther had been a housekeeper for various homes in earlier years. She was a member of Central Church of Christ in Davenport. She enjoyed her time spent with her family and will always be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
Those left to honor her memory include her daughter and son-in-law, Donna & Donald Goldermann of Bettendorf; her son and daughter-in-law, Freddie & Veronica Makepeace of Warner Springs, California; six grandchildren; and fourteen great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husbands, Pete and Leonard, Esther was preceded in death by her parents; her daughter, Joan Makepeace; her son, Jesse Makepeace; her granddaughters, Jody Smith and Tracy Makepeace; and her sisters, Margaret West, Evelyn Goodnight, Mildred Liblin, Martha Smith and Ruby Rochau.
