Esther E. Smith

Esther E. Smith, 83, of Bettendorf, Iowa, died Saturday, February 7, 2009 at Trinity at Terrace Park, Bettendorf.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M., Wednesday, February 11, 2009 at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home, Bettendorf. Visitation will be held from 11:00 A.M. until the time of the services on Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Scott County Humane Society or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
Esther was born May 31, 1925 in Norman County, Minnesota, the daughter of Walter W. & Annie (Dahl) Annis. On November 4, 1944 she was united in marriage to Vernon C. Smith in rural Ada, Minnesota. He preceded her in death on March 2, 2004.
Esther had worked as a sales clerk for the Younkers store in Davenport. She was a former member of First Assembly of God Church in Bettendorf and the Alcoa Retirees’ Retirement Club.
Those left to honor her memory include her son, Vernon Smith of Davenport; her daughter and son-in-law, Diane & Doyle Jones of Peoria, Illinois; her grandchildren, Brian (Ranessa) & Gary Jones & Karen (Jake) Putzler; her great-grandchildren Kathryn, Wyatt & William Jones and Jacob & Richard Putzler; and her sisters Violet Orre of Gary Minnesota and Ella Hagness of Fordsville, North Dakota. Also, she has numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, Vernon, Esther was preceded in death by her parents; and her brother Roy Annis and nephew Gary Gullingsrud.
