Esther I. Long, 81, of Davenport, died Thursday, March 31, 2005 at Good Samaritan Center, Davenport.
Graveside services will be 11:30 A.M., Saturday, April 2, 2005 at Davenport Memorial Park, Davenport. The family will greet friends from 9 to 11 A.M. at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home, Bettendorf. Memorials may be made to the family.
Esther was born February 19, 1924 in Rockingham, Iowa, the daughter of John D. & Mabel (Burgess) Kincaid. She was united in marriage to Roy W. “Dutch” Long on June 21, 1944 in Davenport. He preceded her in death on December 1, 1978.
She was formerly employed as a Unit Supervisor at PerMar Security in Davenport, retiring after several years. She had also been employed at Brammer Manufacturing in Davenport. In addition, Esther was the first lady driver for the former Royal Cab Company.
She was a member of the Davenport Moose Lodge, the first lady member of the Davenport Elks Lodge, and had been active in Senator Tom Harkin’s political campaigns. Esther enjoyed playing cards, bingo, watching CNN news and enjoyed her participation in the Senior Citizens’ RSVP group at the Center for Active Seniors, Inc.
Those left to honor her memory include her daughter and son-in-law, Jackie & John Wochner, East Moline, Illinois; her sons, John Long & his wife, Amy, Douglas Long & his wife, Cathy, Donald Long and James Long, all of Davenport; twelve grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Delma Wolfe, and her brother, George Kincaid.
