Ethel Florence Hildebrand, 95, a resident of Bettendorf, died Monday, January 30, 2017 at Genesis Medical Center, West Central Park in Davenport.
Funeral services celebrating her life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, February 3, 2017 at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Bettendorf. Burial will be at Rock Island National Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 2nd at the church. Memorials may be made to Our Savior Lutheran Church in Bettendorf, where she was a faithful member since 1952. McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf is assisting the family with arrangements.
Born on September 11, 1921 in Ottumwa, Iowa, Ethel was the daughter of Harry and Anna Criswell. On November 4, 1950 in Fairfield, Iowa, she married Raymond C. Hildebrand. He preceded her in death on January 6, 2006.
Throughout her working career, Ethel was a bookkeeper for the Rock Island Arsenal and for Harry VenHorst. She worked for Wonder Bread, sold Tupperware and Avon and was an assistant cook for Pleasant Valley High School. She enjoyed gardening, canning fruits and vegetables, crossword puzzles, sewing and quilting. Ethel was involved in many activities at Our Savior Lutheran Church including, Women’s League, Couples Club and Fellowship Club.
Those left to honor her memory include her sons, Edwin Hildebrand of Davenport and Thomas Hildebrand of Rock Island; daughter, Nancy (Gary) Scott of Silvis; grandchildren, Ian (Emily) Scott, Jonas Scott, Colin Scott and Candace (Jeremy) Hunt; great grandchildren, Ellie, Owen, Annie, Brason and Kaydan.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; son, David; sisters, Louise and Pearl; and brothers, Bob and Ed.
