Eugene Richard Martin, 86, a resident of Davenport, Iowa, died Friday, February 26, 2016 at Bettendorf Health Care Center in Bettendorf.
Funeral services celebrating his life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 1, 2016 at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf. Visitation will be from 12:00 p.m. – 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Graveside services will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 2nd at Early Cemetery in Mercer, Missouri. Memorials may be made to Westside Assembly of God Church in Davenport.
Gene was born on August 20, 1929 in Mercer, Missouri, the son of Lloyd and Hazel (Cox) Martin. He was a graduate of Mercer High School. Gene served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict.
Gene worked for Oscar Meyer in Davenport for 33 years and for Sam’s Club for 13 years. He enjoyed working in the yard, reading the Bible and attending church. He loved spending time with his nieces and nephews.
Those left to honor his memory include his sister, Shirley (Marvin) Vanderpool of Bettendorf and several nieces and nephews.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Jimmie, Murle Dean, Junior, Clifford and Wayne Martin; and sisters, Anna Faye McCarty, Nora Hayes and Edna Slater.
