Eugene G. Rettenmaier, 92, of Davenport, Iowa, died Thursday, July 23, 2015 at Crest Health Center in Davenport.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, July 27, 2015 at Asbury United Methodist Church in Bettendorf where he was a long-time member.  Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Sunday at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf and an hour before the services on Monday at the church.  Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park.  Memorials may be made to the church.

Gene was born June 25, 1923 in Dubuque, Iowa, the son of Joseph & Margaret (Deckert) Rettenmaier.  He served in the United States Army from 1943-45 as a medic in the 25th Infantry Division in the South Pacific. He graduated with “Highest Distinction” from the University of Iowa.  Gene was united in marriage to Ruth H. Mackert on June 19, 1948 in Dubuque.  She preceded him in death on August 12, 2012.

Gene had retired as President and CEO of the McCarthy Improvement Company after 40 years of service.  He had also served as Secretary of Linwood Stone Products of Davenport.  His memberships included the Davenport Rotary Club, the Association of General Contractors in Iowa & Illinois and the American Concrete Paving Association.  Gene had also served on many church boards, committees and other church activities.

Those left to honor his memory include his daughters and sons-in-law, Judith & David Renken of Le Mars, Iowa, Nancy Thornburgh of Ypsilanti, Michigan and Debra & Stuart Walker of Urbandale, Iowa; his sons and daughters-in-law, Thomas & Debi Rettenmaier of Fountain Valley, California and David & Rebecca Rettenmaier of Cincinnati, Ohio; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, Gene was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Helen; and his brothers, Joseph & Vincent.
