Eula Jean Newberry Hanson, 90, a resident of Bettendorf, Iowa died Wednesday,
May 9, 2012 at University of Iowa Hospital, Iowa City, Iowa as a result of a fall.
Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, May 12, 2012 at Bettendorf Presbyterian Church
1200 Middle Road, Bettendorf. Visitation will be held from 9:30 A.M. until the time of service Saturday at the church. Burial will be at 3:00 P.M. in Warren County Memorial Park Cemetery, Monmouth, Illinois. Memorials may be made to the Bettendorf Presbyterian Church in care of McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home, 644 River Drive, Bettendorf, IA 52722.
She was born April 27, 1922 in Wyaconda, Missouri the daughter of Lester and Mildred (Peterson) Newberry. She grew up during the Depression as one of three children and graduated from Monmouth High School in 1940. She married her husband of 68 years, Henry A. Hanson on September 20, 1941. He passed away in 2009.
She worked at Western Stoneware, Woolworths and Benners Grocery Store in Monmouth and was a bookkeeper for Walgreens at Duck Creek in Bettendorf.
While living in Monmouth Eula was a member of Ninth Avenue Presbyterian Church, Monmouth School Board and was a Girl Scout Leader.
After moving to Bettendorf Eula was a member of Bettendorf Presbyterian Church where she helped start the Christian Heritage Senior Group. She was also a member of The Order of Eastern Star in Bettendorf where she served as Secretary for many, many years. She later joined Chapter 178 in Davenport.
She enjoyed trips to Branson, Missouri, her Canasta group, reading, sewing, crafting, canning vegetables, fishing and being with her family.
She had a kind heart and never met a stranger. She cared about everyone and was loved by all.
Eula is survived by her son, Rev. Robert (Mary) Hanson, Springfield, Illinois; her daughter, Carolyn (Raymond) Bell, Holton, Kansas; her sister, Eva Dean Cooke, Galesburg, Illinois; her granddaughters, Rev. Stephanie (Craig) Boaz, Battle Creek, Michigan, Lucy Schrage, Breese, Illinois, Anne Hanson, Antioch, Tennessee, Shandi (Jeff) Hilliard, Holton, Kansas and Heather (Aaron) Burris, Topeka, Kansas; her great-grandchildren, Toby J, Glenna, Lauren, Emily, Shaye, Maggie, Zane, Wyatt, John, Ty and Carlin.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her brother, Lester Newberry Jr. and infant daughter, Glenna Faye.
