Eula Lois Shumate, 94, a resident of the Wapello Nursing & Rehablitation Center in Walpello, Iowa and formerly of Mediapolis, Iowa, LeClaire, Iowa and Bettendorf, Iowa died on Sunday, June 22, 2008 at the nursing center.
Her funeral service will be held at 2:30 P.M. Thursday, June 26, 2008 at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Chapel in Bettendorf. Burial will be in Glendale Cemetery, LeClaire. Visitation will be from 1:30 P.M. to 2:30 P.M Thursday at the funeral home.
She was born January 21, 1914 in Ira, Missouri, the daughter of Joe & Betty (Hunt) Shadrick. On December 24, 1932, she was united in marriage to Tom Shumate in Lebanon, Missouri. He preceded her in death in 1969.
In earlier years, Eula worked at the Rice Stick Factory in Lebanon, Missouri, Woolworth’ and the Lunex Corporation, both of Davenport and the Twin Pine Nursing Home of Kirksville, Missouri.
Among the things she enjoyed were crafts, caring for her flower garden, playing bingo and fixing the best chicken & dumplings for family get-togethers. She was a former member of the Foursquare Church, Calvary Chapel in LeClaire.
Those left to honor her memory include her daughters, Shirley Nations of Wapello and Hazel Nations of Forsyth, Missouri; 12 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great grandchildren and several nieces & nephews.
In addition to her husband, Eula was preceded in death by her children, Patsy Rickey, Carl Eugene Shumate, Floyd Shumate, Boyd Shumate; her sisters, Ethel Waterman, Pearl Martin, Maude Hart, Chloe Moore, Alice Mathis and May Riggins; and her brothers, Jim Shadrick, Lawrence Shadrick, Weldie Shadrick, Tom Shadrick, Fred Shadrick, Jess Shadrick and John Shadrick.
