Eunice Lass

Eunice L. Lass, 91, a resident of Bettendorf, Iowa and formerly of Clinton, Iowa died on Tuesday, October 26, 2010 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Her funeral service will be held at 10:00 A.M. Friday, October 29, 2010 at Our Savior Lutheran Church of Bettendorf where she was a devoted member. Burial will be in Clinton Lawn Cemetery, Clinton, Iowa. Visitation will be from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Thursday, October 28, 2010 at the church. Memorials may be made to the pre-school program at Our Savior Lutheran Church. McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home of Bettendorf is assisting the family with arrangements.

She was born May 31, 1919 in Oak Park, Illinois, the daughter of Paul & Irene (Hitzmann) Heyman and was a graduate of the former Lyons High School in Clinton.

On May 6, 1939, she was united in marriage to Harry R. Lass in Clinton. He preceded her in death on August 30, 1999.

Eunice was an accomplished and expert seamstress who did alterations of all kinds in her home for many years. In earlier years, she worked at Jamie’s Apparel at Cumberland Square in Bettendorf.

In addition to her sewing, she enjoyed knitting for area shelters, nursing homes and shut-ins and truly loved cooking and baking for her beloved family and friends. Eunice was a loyal Iowa Hawkeye fan and enjoyed reading in her spare time.

Those left to honor her memory include her sons, Tom (Judy) Lass of Mt. Vernon, Iowa and David (Margaret) Lass of Toledo, Ohio; her grandchildren, Brad (Bonnie) Lass of Mt. Vernon and Jill (Tom) Swierczewski of South Elgin, Illinois; her great-grandchildren, Sydney & Devin Swierczewski and Dillon & Jamie Lass; her sister-in-law, Helen Hicks of Largo, Florida; and her nieces & nephews across the country especially Loraine Lind and Janice Greenley of Clinton, Iowa.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her sister, Ruth Naeve; her brother, Don Heyman; her parents; and her step-mother, Edith Heyman whom she thought of as a mother.
