Evelyn June Clemons, 86, formerly of Pleasant Valley, entered eternal life peacefully in her sleep early Thursday, January 12, 2017, while in the care of her oldest child in Denver, Colorado.
Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, January 20, 2017 at Pleasant Valley Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the family for a memorial to be decided later. McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf is assisting the family with arrangements.
Born to Dolph and Lola Mae (Lassiter) Hamby on June 1,1930, in Oronogo, Missouri, Evelyn moved to the Quad Cities in the late 1940s. She met her future husband, Marvin Jerome Clemons on a visit to the Clemons Market on State Street in Bettendorf. Evelyn departed her earthly home just in time to celebrate her 67th anniversary on January 15th with Marvin who passed on June 18, 2013.
They spent their entire lives in the Quad Cities, raising six daughters and a son in Pleasant Valley. With the challenge of providing for a large family, Mom worked nearly 20 years at the Rock Island Arsenal as a secretary, painter and laborer.
One of Mom’s passions was singing, the highlight being when the Davenport Sweet Adeline’s chorus performed at Carnegie Hall, in New York City. She also loved fashion, clothes and, above all, her children, 12 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Survivors include seven children: Carol (Mike) Kuster of Denver, Colorado, Judy (Gary) DuMont of Anthem, Arizona, Marvin Jr. (Julie) Clemons of Las Vegas, Nevada, Jeri (Arlen) Clemons of Moline, Illinois, Kathy (Jerry) Ervin of Arley, Alabama, Kim (Jon) Corey of Anthem, Arizona, and Lori (Dan) Irons of Wapello, Iowa; 12 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; sisters, Mary Durham of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and Iris Rowland of Casa Grande, Arizona.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and her siblings: Linville, Carl, Betty Seymour, Ruth Roderick and Robert.
