Evelyn Guffey
December 11, 1917 — March 21, 2014
Evelyn Lorene Guffey, of Bettendorf, Iowa, enjoyed family get-togethers and loved to tell stories about life. At the age of 96, Evelyn entered into God’s arms on March 21, 2014, at Bettendorf Health Care Center, Bettendorf, Iowa. Cremation rites will take place and a service will be held at a later date. Burial of cremated remains will be in Fairmount Cemetery, Davenport, Iowa.
Evelyn was born December 11, 1917, the daughter of Roscoe and Pauline (Wheatly) Patterson in Des Moines, Iowa. She attended high school in Unionville, Missouri. Evelyn married Elvin Lee Guffey on August 17, 1937 in Unionville, Missouri. Elvin passed away in 1989 in Bettendorf, Iowa. Evelyn was a homemaker, and treasured being able to take care of her family. She was also employed by L & M, Royal Blue, and Eagles.
Evelyn will be dearly missed by her five sons, Gary (Eileen) Guffey of Mt. Carroll, Illinois, Don Guffey of Davenport, Iowa, Frank (Darlene) Guffey of Bettendorf, Iowa, Randy (Diane) Guffey of Davenport, Iowa, and John Guffey, Phoenix, Arizona; two daughters, Sandy Johnson and Glenda Guffey, both of Bettendorf, Iowa; twelve grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; two sisters, Joanne Greenlee and Jean Garrett. Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
