Evelyn Mae Sampson, 87, a resident of Davenport, passed away Friday, September 27, 2013 at her home, surrounded by her loving family.
Funeral services celebrating her life will be held at 12:00 Noon on Wednesday, October 2, 2013 at Grandview Baptist Church in Davenport. Burial will be at Rock Island National Cemetery. Visitation for Evelyn will be from 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 1st at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf. Memorials may be made to the Davenport Family YMCA, Grandview Baptist Church or the family.
Born on April 18, 1926 in Fairfield, IA, Evelyn was the daughter of Clarence LeRoy and Ethel Martha (Russell) Hill. On December 26, 1949 in Davenport, she married James G. Sampson. He preceded her in death on November 24, 2008.
Evelyn worked at the Davenport Family YMCA for 48 years. Prior to working at the YMCA, Evelyn worked as a CNA for several years at the Isolation Hospital in Davenport. She enjoyed walking, fishing, reading the Bible and watching the birds out her kitchen window. She was a member of Grandview Baptist Church. Evelyn cherished her time spent with her family.
Those left to honor her memory include her daughters, Maria Parks of Davenport and Missy (Chuck) Bozarth of Buffalo; eleven grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren; her sisters, Agnes Jensen of Princeton and Patricia (Larry) George of Muscatine; her brother, Laverne Hill of Davenport; and ten foster children.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Mark Sampson; two brothers, Clarence and Harold Hill; and one sister, Shirley McVey.
