He was born July 28, 1924 in Aledo, Illinois, the son of Ewald & Nellie (Erickson) Berglund. He met Marrianne Hillis while working at the former Bishop’s Cafeteria in downtown Davenport. They were united in marriage on July 6, 1950 in Geneseo, Illinois. She preceded him in death on November 27, 1994.
One of Ewald’s greatest joys was watching his five sons graduate from Pleasant Valley High School.
He retired from Alcoa in 1986 after 33 years of loyal service.
Ewald loved gardening and traveling to visit his grandchildren. He was a HUGE fan of his beloved Iowa Hawkeyes and rarely missed a game. The Iowa Hawkeyes are losing one of their biggest fans.
Everyone who knew Ewald was touched by his smile and laugh and he will be greatly missed by all.
Those left to honor his memory include his sons, Mike of Bettendorf, Mark and Richard, both of Davenport, John of Princeton, Illinois and Bob & his wife, Betts of Yankton, South Dakota; his grandchildren, Juanita, Michael, Amy, Ashley, Abbie, Ian, Savannah & John; his great-grandchildren, Anthony, Kiersten, Angel & Luke; his brother & his wife, Bob & Bib Berglund of Aledo, Illinois; and his niece, Kathleen Detterman of Bettendorf.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, Ewald & Nellie; his brother, Aubrey; and his granddaughter, Brandi.
