Florence P. Hartz, 92, a resident of Bettendorf, Iowa died on Friday, August 24, 2007 at the Clarissa Cook Hospice House in Bettendorf.
Her funeral service will be held at 1:30 P.M. Tuesday, August 28, 2007 at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Chapel, Bettendorf. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Monday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Clarissa Cook Hospice House or to St. Paul Lutheran Church of Davenport where she was a member.
She was born October 7, 1914 in Davenport, the daughter of William & Pauline (Stein) Stark. On August 7, 1940, she was united in marriage to Alvin H. Hartz at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Davenport. He preceded her in death on February 7, 2007.
Florence & Alvin started farming in rural Pleasant Valley right after their marriage. For many years, Florence drove her egg route every Thursday, carefully carrying the eggs on the floor and seat of her car. They moved to the farm in rural Bettendorf in 1950 where she still lived today. Florence retired from farming and delivering eggs in 1980 and moved to a new house on the farm.
In addition to the church, she was a member of the Golden Wedding Club, the German-American Society, the Scott County Farm Bureau, Liedertaufel Ladies and the American Red Cross. In earlier years, Alvin & Florence loved to dance and enjoyed playing cards with their many friends.
Those left to honor her memory include her son, Allen Hartz of Bettendorf; her grandchildren & their spouses, Troy & Cheri Hartz of Bettendorf, Scott & Kymi Hartz of Bettendorf and Amber & Jay Moser of LeClaire, Iowa; her great-grandchildren, Tara, Calvin, Levi, Erin & Lillyan.
