Florence Ruth “Tootie” Daniel, 89, formerly of Davenport, Iowa passed away Saturday, September 11, 2010 at the Royal Oaks Care Center, Kewanee, Illinois where she had lived for the past five years.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Friday, September, 17, 2010 at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Chapel, Bettendorf, Iowa. Visitation will be held from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. on Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Rock Island National Cemetery, Rock Island, Illinois. Tootie was born in St. Joseph, Missouri on July 1, 1921 the daughter of Rex and Hazel (Kline) Towne. She married Floyd “Danny” Daniel in Washington, Iowa in 1948. He preceded her in death on November 13, 1994.
She had two adopted sons, Gary Daniel of DeWitt, Iowa and Rickie Daniel of Davenport, Iowa. She had five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, five nieces and nephews and many great and great-great nieces and nephews.
She was a crossing guard for the Davenport School Systems until she was 83 years of age. She loved being with kids and they loved her. She enjoyed gambling on the local boats. She loved being around people and all the action. When she was younger she rode motorcycles at the carnival in the “Wall of Death”. She never admitted to being “old”. She always thought she was still young and could do anything.
Tootie was President of the Bettendorf VFW Post 9128 Ladies Aux. seven times and held several other positions over the years.
She is survived by her sons and their families and her nieces and nephews and their families.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents and her three sisters, Ida Versluis, Katherine Gibeau and Evelyn Bowden. Tootie was the youngest of four girls.
Tootie loved animals. Any donations can be made to the Humane Society of Scott County.
