Floyd Cutforth, Jr., 84, of Bettendorf, died Saturday, January 21, 2006 at Trinity at Terrace Park, Bettendorf after an extended illness.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Wednesday, January 25, 2006 at Our Savior Lutheran Church, Bettendorf. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday evening at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home, Bettendorf. Burial with military honors will be held at Rock Island National Cemetery, Rock Island, Illinois. Memorials may be made to Genesis Hospice or Trinity Pathway Hospice.
Floyd was born on October 18, 1921 in Quincy, Illinois to Floyd Cutforth, Sr. and Laura E. (Tenhouse) Cutforth. A devoted husband, father and grandfather, Floyd lived for his family.
He was a WWII Veteran serving in the United States Navy in the South Pacific, and was a Pearl Harbor survivor. Floyd was on board the USS Helena, which was sunk in the Kula Gulf on July 7, 1943. He later served on the USS Houston. After the war, Floyd worked for J.I. Case Company in Burlington and Bettendorf and retired in 1980 as a General Foreman after 23 years of service.
After retirement, Floyd and his wife Mary (Jackie) spent winters in Florida. He enjoyed camping, golfing, and spending time with family and friends. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #9128 of Bettendorf.
On May 11, 1953, Floyd was united in marriage to Mary Virginia Million in Iowa City, Iowa.
He is survived by his loving family, his wife, Mary (Jackie) Cutforth; his sons and daughters-in-law, Steve and Vicki Cutforth of Bettendorf, Kent and Sheri Cutforth-Cheeseborough of Tulare, California, and Terry and Betty Cutforth-Cheeseborough of Visalia, California; his step-son and daughter-in-law, Harold (Jay) and Ruby Leftwich of Maywood, Missouri; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and by his brother Dale Cutforth.
