Frances Bullington

March 7, 1923 — August 29, 2017

Frances E. Bullington, 94, passed peacefully Tuesday, August 29th with her family at her side.  Celebration of Life services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, September 5, 2017 at Asbury United Methodist Church in Bettendorf.  She will be laid to rest at Davenport Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 9:30 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. Tuesday at the Church. McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home of Bettendorf is assisting the family with arrangements.

Francie was born on the family farm near Berwick, Iowa on March 7 1923, the daughter of Forest Braden Yoders and Louise (Hartung) Yoders. The family loved music and during her teen years, Francie and her sisters were known as the “Yoders Sisters” singing and playing piano at a variety of community activities in and around Polk County.  On May 23, 1942, she was united in marriage to Charles “Ed” Bullington in Des Moines, Iowa.  For the past 6 decades they made their home in Bettendorf after Ed was transferred to the Quad Cities by Northwestern Bell Telephone.  Previously, they resided in the Des Moines area and Colfax, IA. After nearly 60 years of marriage, Ed preceded her in death on February 9, 2002.

While primarily a mother and homemaker, during World War II, Fran worked at the Ordinance Plant and at Younkers in Des Moines, and later in life at Material Handling Equipment and the Barron Equipment Company in the Quad Cities.

She and Ed were active and tireless volunteers participating in a variety of school activities, the Bettendorf Booster Club and serving as Band Parents.  She was a 60 year member of Asbury Methodist and she and Ed were active members of the Telephone Pioneers and the Bettendorf Chamber Trailblazers.  During their spare time, they enjoyed playing bridge, loved to dance and looked forward to spending their annual summer vacation at Trout Lake in Minnesota with their family.  Fran enjoyed antiquing, reading, following the grandkids activities and had a soft spot for the family pets, feeding the birds, and occasionally caring for wild animals in need.

Affectionately known to the grandkids as “Granny B”, those left to keep her memory in their hearts include her children, Jeffrey (Connie Parr) Bullington and Christine (Vern) Harvey of Bettendorf; her grandchildren, Keely Bullington, of Bloomington, IL,  Abbey (Michael) Matzen,  Mitchell Harvey, and Megan Harvey of Bettendorf;  four very special great-grandkids, Derrick Wood, Maya Matzen, Nicholas Harvey and Max White; and brothers-in-law, Harold Bullington and Gerald Banning, both of Des Moines; as well as many loving nieces and nephews and wonderful friends.

In addition to her husband, Fran was preceded in death by her sisters, Mary Beth Banning and Peggy Lundahl.

The family is most appreciative of the genuinely compassionate and loving care she received from the staff at the Fountains for the past 3 years.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Asbury Methodist Church.
