Francis W. "Bill" Buchheit

          Francis W. “Bill” Buchheit, 91, a resident of the Iowa Masonic Health Facility in Bettendorf and formerly of LeClaire, Iowa passed away on Sunday, December 10, 2023.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Friday, December 15, 2023 at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf.  Burial will follow at Glendale Cemetery in LeClaire.  Visitation will be from 9:30 A.M. to 10:30 A.M. Friday at the funeral home.  Memorials may be made to Camp Courageous.

          He was born in Davenport, Iowa on January 12, 1932, the son of Francis and Violet (Smith) Buchheit.  He was a graduate of LeClaire High School and St. Ambrose University in Davenport.  On July 22, 1950, he was united in marriage to Loretta J. Thompson in Davenport.  She preceded him in death on October 2, 2018.

          Bill was employed in advertising sales prior to his retirement some years ago.

          He was a member of the LeClaire Presbyterian Church and in earlier years, served as President of the Pleasant Valley School Board, was a member of the LeClaire Volunteer Fire Department, a member of Snow Masonic Lodge and was a die-hard Chicago Cubs fan.

          Those left to honor his memory include his children, Elizabeth (Joe) Ackerman of LeClaire, and Lisa (Steve) Williams of Eldridge, Iowa; his grandchildren, Kara Silverthorn of Davenport, Joe (Oie) Ackerman of Las Vegas, Nevada, Joshua Ackerman of Rock Island, Illinois and Alex Buchheit in Utah, and his great-grandchildren, Gavin, Aden & Greyson.

          In addition to his wife, Bill was preceded in death by his daughter, Cathy Buchheit, his son, “Boo” Buchheit and by his parents.

          The family extends their special thanks to the Iowa Masonic Health Facility and Genesis Hospice for their compassionate and loving care.
