Frank D. Veit, 62, a resident of Davenport, Iowa died Thursday, December 18, 2003 at Genesis Medical Center, East Campus in Davenport after complications from an extended illness.
He was born June 1, 1941 in Neckarsulm, Germany to Johanna & Werner Veit and is the youngest of five siblings.
He arrived in the United States in 1948 with his sister and one brother and grew up in St. Paul, Iowa, later graduating from Davenport High School in 1959.
Frank worked as a laborer until the early 1960’s when he and his brother became involved in sales. He continued in sales until his retirement in the fall of 2000.
He married Rita S. Whipka in 1964 and together they had a daughter, Helena, now age 38. He later married Joleen VonSpreecken in 1979 and together they had a son, Anthony, now age 23.
Frank was a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Davenport. He believed in and supported organ donations after receiving two heart valve surgeries and his own heart transplant between the years 1970 and 1994.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Johanna & Werner; and by his nephew, Aaron Veit.
Those left to honor his memory include his tante (aunt), Helena Veit and his two brothers, Werner & Clauss, all in Germany; his sister, Renate Turner of San Diego, California; his brother, Edgar J. Veit of Riverdale, Iowa; his daughter, Helena Hess of Clinton, Iowa; and his son, Army Specialist 4th Class Anthony N. Veit currently stationed at Ft. Lewis, Washington; and four grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Heart Association in Frank’s memory.
He proudly donated, following his death, his body to the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City for medical study and to help & assist others in their time of need.
A memorial service will be announced at a later date to enable various family members & friends to re-unite at that time. McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home, Bettendorf, Iowa is assisting the family with arrangements.
