Obituary: Frank J. Allender

Frank J. Allender, 88, a resident of Bettendorf, Iowa died on Sunday, June 25, 2006 at his home.
His funeral service will be held at 10:00 A.M. Thursday, June 29, 2006 at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Chapel, Bettendorf. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Disease Foundation.
He was born May 22, 1918 in Clinton, Iowa, the son of Frank & Lillian (Thompson) Allender. On July 21, 1940, he was united in marriage to Ardell L. Gaarde in St. Louis, Missouri. She preceded him in death on February 8, 1992.
Frank was employed as an electrician at the Alcoa Company, retiring in 1985 after 36 years of service.
During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army with the 60th Signal Batallion in Normandy, Northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland & Central Europe. Upon his honorable discharge in 1945 as a Sergeant, he was awarded the American Theater Ribbon, the European-African –Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon with 1 Silver Battle Star, 1 Service Stripe and 3 Overseas Service Bars.
He was a member of the Clinton Masonic Lodge and was accomplished in doing macramé.
Those left to honor his memory include his sons, Marvin (Carol) Allender of Tustin, California and Frank (Carol) Allender of Cherokee, Iowa; his grandchildren, Joshua (Kristy) Allender, Christine (Kevin) Nordstrom and Rebecca Allender; his great-grandchildren, Trae & Ameera Nordstrom and Forest & Frankie Jena Allender; and his sister, Virginia Hildebrandt of Clinton, Iowa.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his brother, Maurice who was killed during World War II.
