Fred Lee Dulaney, Jr., 87, of Davenport, died Friday, January 13, 2012 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Sunday, January 22, 2012 at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Saturday, January 21 st at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Disabled American Veterans or your charity of choice.
Fred was born on June 15, 1924 in Galesburg, IL, the son of Fred L. Sr. and Judith (Sparks) Dulaney. On February 3, 1951 at St. Mark’s Church in Peoria, IL, he married Lois I. Cassens. She preceded him in death on July 18, 2006.
Fred served his country during World War II in the United States Army. While serving in the Army as an ordinance man, he was in the 1 st U.S. Army with the 1 st Infantry Division and the 2 nd Armored Calvary Division from D-Day through all battles until contacting Russian units at Torgav, on the Elbe River, in Germany in April 1945. Besides being awarded all ribbons associated with the European Campaigns, Fred was awarded the Combat Silver Star.
After being honorably discharged, he returned to Peoria, IL and was employed at Caterpillar Tractor Co. as a staff engineer in manufacturing, serving in Peoria, Illinois, Piracicaba, Brazil and Mt. Joy, Iowa.
Fred was a member of the American Society of Manufacturing Engineers; VFW posts in Peoria and Bettendorf, where he served as Past Commander; American Legion Post #2, Peoria; Wilmor Sportsmans Club, Morton, IL; Oak Hill Gun Club, formerly known as the Coonhunters Gun Club, Blue Grass; the Caterpillar Retirees Clubs, Davenport and Peoria.
Survivors include his daughter and her husband, Patti and Tom Daft of Clive, IA; grandchildren, David Daft, Kathryn Daft, and Michaelle Dulaney; one sister, Mary Lou Cline of Metamora, IL; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Lois; and his son Michael.
