Fred E. Stanton, 67, a resident of Bettendorf, Iowa died on Monday, April 21, 2014 at Genesis Medical Center, East Campus in Davenport, Iowa.
A service to celebrate his life will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Friday, April 25, 2014 at Asbury United Methodist Church in Bettendorf. He will be laid to rest at Highland Cemetery in Eddyville, Iowa. Visitation will be from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. on Thursday at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home of Bettendorf. Memorials may be made to the family.
He was born in Ottumwa, Iowa on December 13, 1946, the son of Fred & Edna Louise (Free) Stanton. On June 27, 1965, he was united in marriage to Peggy A. Sipe in Ottumwa.
Fred worked for the Alcoa Company for nearly 30 years, retiring as a mill operator.
His memberships included Asbury United Methodist Church and the United Steel Workers Union.
In his spare time, Fred loved to play golf with his friend, enjoyed skeet shooting and took part in many “spirited” discussions with his breakfast friends.
Those left to honor his memory include his beloved wife, Peggy; his daughter, Julie (Jeff) Grimm of Davenport; his grandchildren, Amber (Stephen) Jaster of Davenport and Ali Stanton of Davenport; his great-grandchildren, Julia and Shawn Jaster; his sisters, Linda (Loren) Ferns of Dixon, Illinois, Donna James of Davenport, Diana Willemsen of New Sharon, Iowa and Sedney (George) Eddy of Eddyville, Iowa; his brother, Darell (Linda) Stanton of Bettendorf; and many other relatives and wonderful friends.
He was preceded in death by his son, Craig on June 7, 1985; and by his parents.
