Fred A. Hamann, 93, a life-long resident of Scott County died on Wednesday, April 20, 2005 at the Davenport Lutheran Home.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, April 23, 2005 at Faith Lutheran Church, Eldridge where he was a charter member. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Friday at the church. Memorials may be made to the church. Chambers Funeral Home, Eldridge is assisting the family with arrangements.
He was born on a farm near Eldridge, Iowa on December 9, 1911, the son of Adolph & Emma (Meier) Hamann. On April 5, 1939, he was united in marriage to Helen M. Goettsch at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Davenport.
Fred farmed for 25 years in Eldridge and was past-president of the Mississippi Valley Milk Producers (now Swiss Valley), and served as a director of the National Milk Producers Association. Following his retirement from farming in 1968, he joined the American Mutual Insurance Association as secretary/manager. In 1980, he retired as secretary/manager, became treasurer and was also named to the company’s Board of Directors. In 1992, he retired from American Mutual.
In retirement, Fred became an accomplished woodworker with a special emphasis on grandfather clocks. He & his wife loved to dance, enjoyed playing cards with their many friends, traveled all over the country and spent many warm winters in Arizona.
Fred was a long-time member of the Eldridge Lions Club and was honored as “Lion of the Year” in 1988. He was also a member & past Chancellor of the Knights of Pythian, Pluto Chapter in Eldridge. In addition, he was a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose of Davenport, the Golden Anniversary Club and was a former member of the Eldridge Sportsman’s Club.
Those left to honor his memory include his beloved wife of 66 years, Helen; his son & daughter-in-law, James & Sally Hamann of Eldridge; his grandchildren, Kelly Schneckloth & her husband, Tom, Reid Storjohann, Kim Haycraft & her husband, Scott, Blake Hamann, Todd Hamann and Karen Storjohann; his great-grandchildren, Shannon & Nicki Enderle, Derek, Olivia & Dustin Storjohann, Stephanie & Brianna Haycraft and Gracie Hamann; his sister & brother-in-law, Ruth & Ted Baetke of Davenport; his brothers & sisters-in-law, Walter & Marian Hamann and Calvin & Phyllis Hamann, all of Davenport; his son-in-law, Richard Vaught of Eldridge, his sister-in-law, Ruth Hamann of Davenport; his brother-in-law, Harold Goettsch of Davenport; and his devoted friend & caregiver, Megan Kinney of Davenport.
Those preceding him in death were his parents; his son, Kermit Fred Hamann; his daughter, Judy Vaught; his sisters, Elsie Kuhl and Rhoda Schmidt; and his brothers, Albert Hamann and Elmer Hamann.
