Reverend Frederick H. Schuster, 69, a resident of Bettendorf, Iowa, died Sunday, May 22, 2005 at Genesis Medical Center, East Campus, Davenport following a sudden illness.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Thursday, May 26, 2005 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 1122 W. Central Park Avenue, Davenport. Burial will be in Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, Rock Island, Illinois. Visitation will be from 4:00 P.M. To 8:00 P.M., Wednesday evening at Risen Christ Lutheran Church, 6021 Northwest Boulevard, Davenport. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Risen Christ Lutheran Church, Concordia Seminary, St. Louis, Missouri, The Lutheran Homes for the Aged of Iowa East or Lutheran Family Services of Iowa. McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home, Bettendorf is assisting the family with arrangements.
Frederick was born July 7, 1935 in Sioux City, Iowa, the son of Herbert F. & Ida H. (Kienast) Schuster. He was united in marriage to Anna Schroeder on November 5, 1960 in Lapeer, Michigan.
Frederick attended Concordia High School and Junior College in St. Paul, Minnesota and Concordia Seminary in St. Louis, Missouri. Upon graduation from the seminary in 1960, he was commissioned as missionary-at-large to Lubbock, Texas, where he was founding pastor of Our Savior Lutheran Church. In 1964 he accepted the call to Trinity Lutheran Church in Borger, Texas and served there until accepting the call to Trinity Lutheran Church of Vinton, Iowa in 1972. In 1989, he accepted the call to Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Davenport, Iowa and served there until 2000. He received his doctorate of ministry from Concordia Seminary in 1997. He then served as Associate pastor to Risen Christ Lutheran Church in Davenport.
Reverend Schuster has served as a trustee to the Davenport Lutheran Home and also served with the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League. In addition, he served as vacancy pastor at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Davenport.
Reverend Schuster taught Bible classes, enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles and participating in & watching a variety of sports activities. His wife, Anna, his children and his grandchildren were the joy of his life.
Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Anna; his daughters Ellen Schuster of Bettendorf, and Audrey Vandenburgh & her husband, Alan of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; his son Steven F. Schuster & his wife, Taresa of Rockford, Illinois; his grandsons, Calvin & William Schuster; and his brother, Philip Schuster & his wife, Maggie of Santa Clara, California, and their children, Shelly, Rebecca, and Adam.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
