Fred L. Seibel, 72, a resident of rural Walcott, Iowa died on Friday, July 18, 2008 at the Clarissa Cook Hospice House in Bettendorf, Iowa.
His funeral service will be held at 1:30 P.M. Tuesday, July 22, 2008 at Faith Lutheran Church in Eldridge, Iowa. Burial will be in Maysville Cemetery with Military honors presented by the Dixon American Legion Post 0353. Visitation will be from 3:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Monday, July 21, 2008 at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Maysville Volunteer Fire Department or the Maysville Cemetery Association.
He was born August 27, 1935 in Pleasant Valley, Iowa, the son of Harry L. & Alma (Slaby) Seibel. In 1955, Fred enlisted in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged in 1957 as a Specialist 4th Class.
On April 7, 1956, he was united in marriage to Lois A. Jacobsen in Davenport, Iowa.
Fred was a life-long farmer in Scott County and also worked as an auctioneer. During the past 3-½ years, he worked at Mid-West Wheel in Davenport where he made a multitude of great friends. Fred loved his work there and the family is forever grateful to his co-workers & friends who offered so much support & help during Fred’s illness.
His memberships included the Dixon American Legion Post #353 and the Davenport Elks Lodge.
Those left to honor his memory include his beloved wife of 52 years, Lois; his daughter, Deb Steffen of Davenport; his son, Doug Seibel & his friend, Cate Schnabel of Walcott, Iowa; his grandchildren, Josh, Kayla & Shawn Steffen; his sister-in-law, Ruth (Elmer) Jurgens of Eldridge, Iowa; his sister-in-law, Jeanie Moffit of Grand Mound, Iowa; his nephews, Steve (Cheryl) Jurgens of Long Grove, Iowa and Rick (Chris) Seibel of Sunbury, Iowa; his niece, Vicki (Bill) Tucker of Blue Grass, Iowa; and many other relatives and wonderful friends.
Fred was preceded in death by his parents, Harry & Alma Seibel; his brother & sister-in-law, Harold & Marilyn Seibel; his son-in-law, Dick Steffen; his father-in-law & mother-in-law, Henry & Agnes Jacobsen; his brother-in-law, Gilbert Jacobsen; and a special niece, Linda Jurgens.
