Frenchie Elaine Meador, 85, a former resident of Bettendorf, Iowa died on Saturday, September 28, 2013 at Emeritus at Sequoia Springs Nursing Center in Fortuna, California.
A service to celebrate her life will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, October 5, 2013 at Asbury United Methodist Church of Bettendorf where she had been a member. Visitation will be held from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. on Friday at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home of Bettendorf and from 10:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. on Saturday at the church. Graveside services will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Monday, October 7, 2013 at the Rock Island National Cemetery. Those wishing to attend the graveside service should gather at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home by 9:30 A.M. on Monday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation of America or the Arthritis Foundation.
She was born in Kirksville, Missouri on August 15, 1928, the daughter of Frank & Abigail Leota (Lewis) Ladwig. On November 24, 1948, she was united in marriage to Dan P. “Doc” Meador in Kirksville. He preceded her in death on September 4, 1995.
Elaine graduated from the Northeast Missouri State Teacher’s College in Kirksville and later from Marycrest College in Davenport. During her education, she worked as a teacher’s aide in the North Scott School System and later was an elementary school teacher at Lourde’s Catholic School of Bettendorf, retiring in 1994 after over 20 years of faithful service.
Those left to honor her memory include her daughter, Dana K. Taylor of Fortuna, California; her sons, Michael Meador of Franklin, Tennessee and Charles “Chuck” Meador of Clearwater, Minnesota; her grandchildren, Alissa Meador, Caroline Meador-Bliss, Kathleen Meador, Adrian Meador, Brett Meador & Drew Taylor; her great-grandchildren, Alexandria Meador, Zoi Metternich, Aiden Meador, Kolten Meador, Kenadi Meador, Alex Meador and Taylor Meador-Bliss; her sisters, Evelyn Schooley in Washington and Connie Fountain of Novenger, Missouri; and her brother, Wayne Ladwig of Greentop, Missouri.
In addition to her husband, Elaine was preceded in death by her son, Patrick Meador and her granddaughter, Amanda Marie Meador.
