Gail Stevens

Gail Ann Stevens, 59, a resident of DeWitt, Iowa and formerly of Eldridge, Iowa died on Tuesday, December 6, 2022 at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City, Iowa following a brief illness.

A celebration of her life will be held from 6:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. on Friday, December 9 th at the DeWitt United Methodist Church, 222 12th St. in DeWitt. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Quad-Cities All Breed Horse Association or the North Scott Community Schools. Chambers Funeral Home of Eldridge is assisting the family with arrangements.

She was born in Davenport, Iowa on December 30, 1962, the daughter of William R. “Ross” and Reba V.A. (Hanna) Stevens. Gail graduated from Davenport Central High School in 1981 and later graduated from Scott Community College with a degree in Hazmat Response.

Gail drove a school bus for the North Scott School System and in earlier years, worked at UPS in Davenport.

She was widely known as “The Horse Lady.” For many years, she taught horseback riding, judged numerous horse shows, was an accomplished trainer of horses, provided consultation to other horse owners and conducted may clinics related to horses and their care.

Gail was active in 4-H most of her life and was member of the Quad-Cities All Breed Horse Association. She was also a member of the DeWitt United Methodist Church.

Those left to honor her memory include her sisters, Linda Mohr of Welton, Iowa and Nancy Stevens of Bettendorf, Iowa; her nieces & nephews, Colleen Huber of DeWitt, Willy (Deanna) Mohr of Moline, Illinois, Richard (Renae) Mohr of Donahue, Iowa and Heather Mohr of Welton; numerous great-nieces & great-nephews; her loving companion, Barry Voshell of Pleasantville, Iowa; and many beloved friends.

Gail was preceded in death by her parents and her brother-in-law, Bill Mohr.
