Funeral services for Gale “Spike” Coss, 92, of LeClaire, IA, will be 5:00 pm on Saturday at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home, Bettendorf. Burial will take place at Durant Cemetery, Durant, IA. Family will greet friends on Saturday from 4:00 pm to service time at the funeral home.
Gale passed away on Tuesday, March 12, 2024, at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf, IA.
Gale was born on May 11, 1931, in Fredericksburg, IA, the son of Lewis and Olive (Conklin) Coss. He married Carla M. Mordhorst on July 19, 1952, in Davenport. She preceded him in death on October 28, 2020. Gale worked as a commercial fisherman for many years, while also working at J.I. Case and Adel, retiring in 1996.
Gale enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping. He was a member of Moose Lodge #28 and Ducks Unlimited. He golfed in the Hidden Hills Two Man Best Ball Golf League.
Survivors include his children, Gayla (Jesse) Cook of Rock Island, Illinois, and Candy (Todd) Thomas of Lamoni, Iowa; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and one sister, Helen Sanbdman of Westminster, CA.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, son, Gordon Coss, sisters, Goldie Chandler, Dorothy Ericksen, Evelyn Farris, Maxine Duncan, Phyllis Coss, brothers, Stuart Coss, Lewis Coss, Albert Coss, Larry Coss, Robert Coss and Kenneth Coss.
