Gary J. Harvey, 72, a resident of Davenport, Iowa died Monday, April 15, 2013 at Genesis Medical Center, East Campus, and Davenport.

Funeral services will be held at noon on Saturday, April 20, 2013 at Westside Assembly of God Church, Davenport.  Visitation will be held from 10:00 A.M. to the time of service Saturday.  Burial will be in Fairmont Cemetery, Davenport.  Memorials may be made to the Westside Assembly of God Church.  McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home, Bettendorf, Iowa is assisting the family with the arrangements.

Gary was born September 16, 1940 in Grand Junction, Colorado the son of Joseph “Joe” and Margorie (Buckley) Harvey.  He was united in marriage to Sandra Peterson in Las Vegas, Nevada in November 8, 1980,

He served his country in the United States Navy in South East Asia from 1958 to 1961.  He was assigned to the aircraft carrier, USS Kearsarge based in Long Beach, California.

Gary retired as an Electronics Engineer in quality control for JTM Concepts in Rock Island, Illinois.  He had previously worked at Lockheed Martin, Palmdale, California, Zero Corp.,  Burbank, California on the manned Lunar Lander for NASA’s Apollo program, NASA’s Dryden Flight Research Center, Rosamond, California and wrote technical manuals for the United States Army.

He was a member of the Oak Hills Gun Club, the National Rifle Association and was very active in his church, Westside Assembly of God.

He enjoyed target shooting, riding his Harley Davidson, traveling with his wife, bible study with friends and singing and playing guitar for the residents at various nursing homes.

Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Sandra Harvey, Davenport; his children, Angie (Darien) Gallaher, Sun Valley, California, John Joseph Harvey, Sun Valley, California, Steven Harvey, Palmdale, California and Michael (Martha) Harvey, Canyon Country, California; his step-children, Tina (Denny) Motsch, Davenport, Jessie Young, Davenport and John Brady, Davenport;his grandchildren, Lindsey, Michelle and Madelyn; his sisters, Patricia (Ray) Aguirre, Davenport and Myrna (Ed) Hatch, Lake Tahoe, California; his sister-in-law, Bev (John) Neely, Davenport; his brothers-in-law, Paul (Pat) Peterson and Dale Peterson and his good friends, the Breakfast Clubbers, Denny Gray, Ron & Erma Mooberry, Estill Arnold, Lyle Felton, Leon Walker, Bev Kisner, Bev Gosney and several others.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his son, David Harvey in 1980.
