Gary Dean Knapper, 67, of Donahue, passed away at his home on Sunday, August 6, 2017.
Funeral services celebrating his life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 12, 2017 at Faith Lutheran Church in Eldridge. Burial will follow at Allen’s Grove Cemetery in Donahue. Visitation will be held from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, August 11th at the church. In lieu of flowers and statuaries, memorials may be made to the Donahue Fire Department. Chambers Funeral Home in Eldridge is assisting the family with arrangements.
Gary was born April 14, 1950 in Davenport, Iowa, the son of Elmer and Barbara (O’Brien) Knapper. He was a 1968 graduate of North Scott High School. Gary was united in marriage to Donna McLaughlin in Dixon, Iowa on February 28, 1970.
Gary was an equipment operator for various construction companies in the Quad Cities and then started Knapper Excavating and Tiling based in Donahue. He retired from the City of Davenport. In his youth he enjoyed snowmobiling and horses, and throughout the years he enjoyed fishing, hunting, tending to his garden, and spending time outdoors. He also enjoyed traveling, playing cards, and watching NASCAR. Gary was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Eldridge.
Those left to honor Gary’s memory include his wife, Donna; his son and daughter-in-law, Jeffrey and Carey Knapper of Robertsville, MO; sisters, Catherine (John Gubbings) Knapper, Linda Knapper, Teresa (Keith) Harris, Karolyn (Greg) Good, Diane (John) Brawley; brothers, Elmer Knapper and Tom (Jackie Hamilton-Knapper) Knapper; and many nieces and nephews that he loved so much.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Jane Ellen; brother, Edward W. Knapper and his parents.
