Gary C. Stapleton, 73, a resident of Eldridge, Iowa died on Wednesday, April 30, 2014 at Genesis Medical Center, East Campus in Davenport, Iowa following an extended illness.
A service to celebrate his life will be held at 11:00 A.M. Monday, May 5, 2014 at the Eldridge United Methodist Church where he was a member. Visitation will be from 3:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M. on Sunday at Chambers Funeral Home of Eldridge. Private family graveside services will take place at Pine Hill Cemetery, Davenport. Memorials may be made to the Eldridge Volunteer Fire Department or the Parkinson’s Disease Foundation.
He was born in Horton, Kansas on February 17, 1941 to Craig O. and Mabel M. (McGary) Stapleton and was a graduate of Omaha (Nebraska) High School. On December 10, 1965, he was united in marriage to Marjorie Case in Omaha.
Gary retired in 2004 after owning a Brownberry distributorship for many years.
In addition to the church, he was a member of the Omaha Florence Lodge #218, A.F. & A.M.
Among the things he enjoyed were model trains, having coffee with the guys, playing poker and Nebraska Cornhusker football.
Those left to honor his memory include his beloved wife, Marjorie; his children, Susan Stapleton of Las Vegas, Nevada and Scott (Chelsea) Stapleton of West Des Moines, Iowa; and his grandchildren, Olivia Stapleton and Theodore Stapleton.
His parents preceded him in death.
