Gary L. Coffman, 69, of Davenport, Iowa, died Wednesday, April 30, 2008 at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Saturday, May 3, 2008 at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home, Bettendorf. Visitation will be from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to the family.
Gary was born March 9, 1939 in Davenport, the son of John H. & Rene E. (Stenger) Coffman. On June 25, 1960 he was united in marriage to Patricia A. McKim in Davenport. He had served in the United States Army Reserves. Gary retired in 1995 from John Deere Harvester Works in Moline after 31 years of employment.
Gary had coached midget football, baseball and girls softball throughout the years, always acting as a role model to children. He was also an avid Iowa Hawkeyes fan and avid fisherman.
Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Pat; his daughters, Chris Coffman, Cindy (Dave) Cain and Cheryl (fiancé, Chad) Strayer, all of Davenport; his grandchildren, Jennifer (Shaine) Mier, Amy Jennings, Heather Strayer, Sara Strayer, Mitchell Strayer and Rachel Cain; his great-grandchildren, Riley & Aubrey Mier; his sister, Marlynd Millage, of Bettendorf; his brothers, Mike (Shirley) Coffman, of Phoenix, Arizona and Daryl (Inga) Coffman, of Lakeland, Florida; and his sisters-in-law, Lois Coffman, of Davenport and Glorena Coffman, of Phoenix.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents; five sisters; and six brothers.
