Gary L. Jensen, 59, of Burlington, Iowa, died Thursday, September 4, 2008 at the Veterans Administration Medical Center, Iowa City, Iowa.
Committal services with military honors conducted by Moline American Legion Post 246 will be held at 1:30 P.M., Wednesday, September 10, 2008 at the Rock Island National Cemetery, Rock Island, Illinois. Those wishing to attend the service should meet at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home, Bettendorf, Iowa by 12:30 P.M. on Wednesday. Memorials may be made to the Veterans Administration Medical Center of Iowa City.
Gary was born July 21, 1949 in Davenport, Iowa, the son of Arthur B. & Ella M. (Maass) Jensen. Gary was inducted into the United States Army in 1969 and served with the 594th Transportation Company during the Vietnam Conflict. He was honorably discharged in 1971.
Gary was most recently employed at the Rock Island Arsenal, he had been a machinist throughout his life. He was a member of ABATE of Iowa and Illinois. He enjoyed motorcycles and spending time with family and friends.
Those left to honor his memory include his daughters, Cori (Kenneth) Sharer & Cheryl Jensen, of Monmouth, Illinois; his grandchildren, Dylan, Seth, Sydney and Madison; his brother, Richard (Martha) Jensen, of Colona, Illinois; his half-brother, Kenneth Jensen; his special cousin, Kelly Rodgers; numerous other cousins; and his aunts and uncles, Richard (Loretta) Maass, Herman Maass, Jr., Anita Brewer and Gloria Smith.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
