Gary Lee Buffett, 53, a resident of Bettendorf, Iowa and formerly of Kewanee, Illinois died Saturday, April 2, 2005 at Trinity at Terrace Park after suffering a massive heart attack at his home.
His funeral will be held at 10:00 A.M. Thursday, April 7, 2005 at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Chapel, Bettendorf. Serving as pallbearers will be Matt Klimkewicz, Troy Kelly, Kevin Hansen, Alex Klimkewicz, Brian Dexter and Mike Lewis. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Kurt Stepaniak, Mike Lubben, Todd McManus & Ceafer Greene. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the family.
He was born August 11, 1951 in Kewanee, the son of Ronald W. & Ardith E. (Lewis) Buffett, was a graduate of Kewanee High School and of Northern Illinois University at DeKalb, Illinois. On September 20, 2003, he was united in marriage to Deborah L. Johnston in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Gary was employed as an arbitrator in the legal department of Kone Elevator, Inc. of Moline, Illinois.
Family was probably the most important thing in Gary’s life. So many things revolved around family activities and Gary cherished the times they were together. He loved to cook for family holiday gatherings and enjoyed spending hot summer days in their pool. Working in his yard was a favorite pastime, as well as following University of Illinois sports and the frequent companionship of his fellow “Alpha Mu” Fraternity brothers in a variety of adventures. He was dearly loved by many and although he will be sadly missed, he will forever be fondly remembered by his beloved family & many friends.
Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Deb; his step-daughters, Teiah Campbell and Jill Hansen & her husband, Kevin, all of Davenport; his step-grandchildren, Bryant, Michael, Nathan, Hailey, Collin & Brady; his mother & step-father, Ardith & Harry Unterzuber of Lake Placid, Florida; his mother-in-law, Mary Johnston of Muscatine, Iowa; his father-in-law, William Bottoms of Eau Claire, Wisconsin; his sisters & brothers-in-law, Terry & Matt Klimkewicz and Judy & Troy Kelly, all of Kewanee; his sister-in-law, Melodie Robson of Ainsworth, Iowa; his brother-in-law, Joseph Bottoms & his wife, Shari of Clinton, Iowa; his nieces & nephews, Alex Klimkewicz, Kaylee Klimkewicz, Angie O’Connor & her husband, Casey, Brian Dexter and Ryne Kelly; and his beloved canine companions, Oliver & Gus.
Gary was preceded in death by his father; and by an infant sister.
