Gayle Marie Suiter, 54, a resident of LeClaire, Iowa died on Saturday, July 2, 2011 at her home surrounded by her beloved family after a courageous battle with breast cancer..

Services to celebrate her life will be held at 2:00 P.M. Thursday, July 7, 2011 at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Chapel, Bettendorf. She will be laid to rest at McCausland Cemetery, McCausland, Iowa. Visitation will from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the family.

She was born in Davenport, Iowa on April 20, 1957 the daughter of Grant & Georgia (Carter) Schmidt. Gayle was a 1975 graduate of Bettendorf High School and received her office & secretarial training at Scott Community College. In earlier years, she was active in Rainbow Girls and represented the state of Iowa at their annual state convention. On April 3, 1982, she was united in marriage to Rusty L. Suiter in Princeton, Iowa.

Gayle was employed in sales & marketing for East Moline Metal Products for 17 years and had worked until last week. In earlier years, she was employed as personnel manager at French & Hecht of Davenport.

She was an active member of the Quad-City Breast Cancer Support Group, a member of the former LeClaire Volunteer Ambulance and a volunteer for the Princeton Fire Department. In addition, she & Rusty enjoyed volunteering at the Naibi Zoo.

Gayle loved country music, enjoyed flowers, baking, camping, living along the river and and especially loved her precious grandchildren.

Those left to honor her memory include her husband, Rusty; her daughters, Christine Suiter of Colona, Illinois and Dorothy (Brian) Gulick of Davenport; her grandchildren, Corey Suiter, Christopher Lerch, Elizabeth Lerch, Adam Steininger, Hope Steininger, Jessica DeWulf and Colin Gulick; and her first great-grandchild expected later this month. In addition, she is survived by her sisters, Mary Gaye (Ken) Morse of Davenport and Marcia (Denny) Walthers of McPherson, Kansas; her brother, Gregory Schmidt of Bettendorf; her nieces & nephews, Nicholas Schmidt, Jacob Schmidt, Alexa Schmidt, Jacob Morse, Zachary Morse, Dan (Sandy) Schmidt and Nichole (Kerry) Lambrecht, Stephanie Smith and Angela (Chris) Schafer; several great-nieces & great-nephews; and many other relatives and wonderful friends.

Gayle was preceded in death by her brother, Gary Schmidt on November 27, 1986; her father on May 23, 1988 and her mother on April 9, 2011.
