George R. Clausen, 69 of Bettendorf, Iowa died February 21, 2017 at Manor Care on Utica Ridge, Davenport, Iowa.
Funeral services celebrating his life will be held at 11:00 A.M., Friday, February 24, 2017 at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf. Visitation will be from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. on Thursday, February 23rd at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family.
George was born on September 29, 1947 in Davenport, Iowa, the son of George A. and Evelyn (Bracker) Clausen. On June 29, 1968, he married Coraliene “Corky” Springsteen in Morning Sun, Iowa.
George was as a Certified Master Mechanic, working for Dahl Ford in Davenport and retiring from Horst-Zimmerman in Rock Island. He taught auto mechanics to high school students at Scott Community College.
George enjoyed hunting, but his passion in life was Kart Racing. He built the engines in 42 National Champion Karts, 18 of which were with his son, Mike. George helped countless people get started in karting, mentoring many kids, big and small. He was a long time Official for International Kart Federation.
Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Corky; son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Kelly Clausen of Rock Island; great-grandchildren, Kayliana and Kierian Trahan; and brothers-in-law, Frank Springsteen of Morning Sun, Iowa and Percy Springsteen of Hope Mills, North Carolina.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Ken Frank; and his beloved dogs, Ziggy and Zoie.
