George J. “Jim” Gimm, 81, a resident of LeClaire, died Saturday, January 2, 2016 at Genesis Medical Center, West Campus in Davenport.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 7, 2016 at Our Lady of the River Catholic Church, 28200-226th St. Place in LeClaire. Burial will be at Pleasant Valley Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 6th at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf. Memorials may be made to the family.
Born on May 5, 1934 in Davenport, Jim was the son of George J. and Ruth C. (Roller) Gimm. On September 17, 1960 in Silvis, he married Augustina “Ann” Terronez.
Jim was stationed in Germany during the Korean Conflict while serving in the United States Army from 1954 – 1957. Following his time in the Army, Jim attended Augustana College. He worked at the Rock Island Arsenal for 33 years. Jim was a member of Our Lady of the River Catholic Church in LeClaire and the Buffalo Bill American Legion. He enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, fishing and reading and writing poetry.
Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Ann; children, Juli (Les) Richardson of Bettendorf and Dean (fiancé Melinda Holzinger) Gimm of Coal City, Illinois; 18 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; sisters, Ruth Goin of Blue Grass and Nancy Golden of Colorado Springs, Colorado; and brothers, Patrick Gimm of Huntsville, Alabama and Thomas Gimm of Mascoutah, Illinois.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sons, Patrick and Steve; and three brothers, Robert, Michael and William.
