George Nixon

George R. Nixon, 63, of Long Grove, Iowa, died Thursday, November 24, 2011 at Genesis Medical Center, East Campus in Davenport. Per George’s wishes, cremation rites will be accorded and there will be no services. A memorial has been established in his memory and can be directed to the funeral home. Chambers Funeral Home of Eldridge is assisting the family with arrangements.
George was born November 4, 1948 in Hannibal, Missouri, the son of Cecil L. & Mariam (Smashey) Nixon. On June 7, 1969, he married Clarice DeWitt. She preceded him in death in September of 1972. George then married Joy Elsen in Palmer, Iowa on July 8, 1973.
George owned and operated George’s Auto Service in Rock Island for 32 years. He enjoyed fishing, nature and spending time with his grandchildren. George was a “do-it-yourself” guy and loved spending time at his cabin in Wisconsin.
Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Joy Nixon of Long Grove; his son, Andrew Nixon and his wife Leigh Ann of Rock Island; his daughter, Amy Nixon-Wagar and her husband A.J. of Rock Island; his grandchildren, Jake & Riley; and his sister, Cecilia Stafford and her husband Jeff of Moline.
George was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife, Clarice.
