George M. Weers Jr., 93, of Bettendorf passed away on Saturday, August 6, 2022 at his residence.
A visitation will be held from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 13th at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home, Bettendorf. A Masonic service will begin at 11:00 a.m. Private family inurnment will be at Glendale Cemetery, LeClaire. Memorials may be directed to Shriners Hospitals for Children.
George was born on September 5, 1928 in Pana, Illinois, the son of George and Ocie (King) Weers Sr. He served in the U.S. Marine Corp and on September 17, 1949, he married Lois J. Smith in Pana. George worked as a truck driver at Barton Naphtha (Barton Solvents Inc.) in Bettendorf until his retirement in 1987. He was a member of Snow Masonic Lodge #44, Eastern Star, and the Kaaba Shriners. George was dedicated to service work through the Shriners where he drove the trolley and also transported children to the Shriners Hospital. He was honored to be a 33rd Degree Mason.
Those left to honor his memory are his daughter, Kathy “Kit” Gleason of Bettendorf; two granddaughters, Robin (Jeremy) Dye of Broomfield, Colorado, Danielle Gleason-King of Bettendorf; and five great-grandchildren, Tayler, Khloe, Shannon, Sawyer, and Sparrow.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Lois; his son, Terry; and siblings, Chris, Menard, and Gertrude.
