George E. “Dan” Santee, 88, a resident of Princeton, Iowa died on Saturday, November 5, 2005 at his home.
His funeral service will be held at 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, November 9, 2005 at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Chapel, Bettendorf, Iowa. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park where military honors will be conducted. Visitation will be from 11:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to family or to the Princeton Volunteer Fire Department.
He was born July 21, 1917 in Davenport, Iowa, the son of John & Verlia (Brockelle) Santee. On June 1, 1940, he was united in marriage to Darlene Marie Cole in Clinton, Iowa. She preceded him in death on April 14, 2002.
George worked many years as an ironworker affiliated with the Ironworker’s Union Local in Rock Island. He was involved in many Quad-City construction projects including several local hospitals. He retired in 1982.
During World War II, he served as an infantryman with the U.S. Army in the south Pacific. He received numerous citations & awards including the Oak Leaf Cluster and two Purple Hearts.
He very much enjoyed hunting, fishing and especially his garden. He also enjoyed flying airplanes in earlier years.
Those left to honor his memory include his daughters, Rita (Dennis) Siefers of LeClaire, Iowa, Nancy Griffin of LeClaire, Joni (Tony Ayer) Davidson of Bettendorf and Carol (Russell) Dunbar of Hampton, Illinois; thirteen grandchildren; twenty-four great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; his sister, Verlia Rabe of Bettendorf; and his brother, William Santee of Bettendorf.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, John Santee II, his son-in-law, Jerrold Griffin; and his grandson, Shane Griffin. May they all rest in peace.
